The Parties discussed issues on the political crisis in Ukraine and ways of overcoming it.
The delegation members called the Ukrainian government to stop violence against peaceful protesters and called all Parties to use political means for resolving the conflict. Particularly, they approved the reversal of anti-democratic laws of January 16 by the Ukrainian Parliament, and called President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych to immediately sign them.
“We support peaceful pro-European protestors in their aspiration to democracy, freedom, and we address the President of Ukraine with a demand to listen to his own people,” emphasized Elmar Brok.
Hryhorii Nemyria thanked the European Parliament "for support of the Ukrainian people in such difficult and dangerous time."
Petro Poroshenko stressed that “the unified Europe should be together with Ukraine. Thank you for Your help in our fight for democracy and the European values.”
In the course of the meeting, the issue of adopting the amnesty law regarding political prisoners of the Yanukovych’s regime, including several thousands of Ukrainians detained after the beginning of mass protests in the support of European integration, was discussed.
“Liberation of political prisoners should begin with Yulia Tymoshenko, who has become an embodiment of a politically motivated persecution of the Yanukovych’s regime,” said Iryna Herashchenko.
In this connection, Hryhorii Nemyria expressed gratitude to the European Parliament for constant efforts directed at liberation of the opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko and the proposal to send her for treatment.
